First 3D printed ship propeller

The additive manufacturing consortium has reached a breakthrough in the field of 3D printing with a welding robot.

The first prototype of the WAAMpeller is a fact. The WAAMpeller is a product made with the Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing method, with layer based 3D printing with a welding robot.

Various companies including RAMLAB, Autodesk and Valk Welding have combined their knowledge, machines and software to ultimately realize the first prototype.

The WAAMpeller has a total weight of 400 kilos and has a diameter of 1350 mm. The prototype is now undergoing CNC processing after which the production of a second prototype will follow soon. The WAAMpeller will eventually be mounted under a ship and undergo various tests.
