Innovation in the steel industry: Valk Welding and Vrolijk Steel Concepts

Less than three years ago, the Vrolijk Group started a new division: Vrolijk Steel Concepts. Thanks to good cooperation with various partners, there is now a steel factory of the future. Karel Vrolijk, CEO of the Vrolijk Group, began his career on the shop floor of the steel factory where Vrolijk Steel Concepts is now located. This steel factory was then part of Zuid Nederlandse Staalbouw.

The Vrolijk Group has since grown into a large and innovative construction company. In 2022, everything came together when the old steel factory of Hollandia, at the place where Karel Vrolijk himself once started, was taken over: Vrolijk Steel Concepts was born. Thanks to the construction knowledge, Vrolijk has developed a progressive steel concept that optimises construction processes. By standardising the entire process – from engineering to manufacturing and assembly – construction projects are accelerated without compromising on quality. The entire process is now in-house, allowing for optimal control and flexibility.

The choice for Valk Welding

Marcel Boks, director of Vrolijk Steel Concepts, was part of the team responsible for setting up the new factory. “Valk Welding was the most advanced in terms of knowledge and expertise for the product we wanted. The mechanical part was an essential component of our welding robot, and in collaboration with Kuunders, they specialised in this. Moreover, Valk Welding had already installed a similar concept at a trailer manufacturer, which appealed to us,” says Marcel Boks.
“The cooperation with Valk Welding went well. They take their responsibility seriously and are solution oriented. The technical support is also of an extremely high level. Valk Welding is a pleasant party to work with," says Marcel Boks.

Efficient and sustainable steel production

The system is designed so that trusses of 24 meters long can be placed, manipulated, and welded in one go. This innovative concept makes it possible to weld the entire product on all sides by four (or later, if necessary, more) welding robots. This is a unique concept with many advantages for the exceptionally long products of Vrolijk Steel Concepts. Once the product is welded, it is removed again. The carousel is designed to hold two jigs, which remain at an ergonomic height for the operators when safely filling the jig. This entire project came about thanks to the good cooperation between all partners, with 'The strong connection' being central to this project!
